Police arrested L.A. rapper Bricc Baby, 29, for alleged armed robbery after he led authorities on a brief pursuit.
Police pursued the rapper for around 20 minutes in the Marina del Rey area after his SUV was spotted by an air unit. Baby eventually exited his vehicle and ran into a nearby apartment complex where he had a six-hour standoff with police. Authorities employed the SWAT team and police dogs to go after him inside the building and he surrendered without further incident, according to NBC Los Angeles.
Bricc Baby’s family claimed his innocence to the outlet, “I came to make sure they didn’t kill another black man, young man. He didn’t rob nobody. He doesn’t have a gun.” The mother also claimed that a friend of his robbed several items from a store they were in together and that they were in the same car.
Police defended the use of SWAT and dogs for the standoff, “The fact that we have such a large apartment building and area to search - we need extra assets to keep the public and officers safe,” said Captain Jay Roberts of the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Patrol.
