Scores of celebrities, athletes, and social leaders took to social media to bid farewell to Dick Gregory upon receiving news of his passing over the weekend. The legendary comedian/activist is revered not only for the impact he's had on arts, entertainment, and literature but for the contributions he made to social justice movements over the past six decades. One entertainer who some might regard as one of Gregory's predecessors, especially in light of his evolution towards social consciousness over the past couple of years, is T.I. And in recognizing that he has taken on the responsibility to carry the torch, the rap mogul paid homage to his late elder by sharing a memory that sheds light on that connection on Sunday, August 20.

"I still remember calling you for advice on what I should be doing and how to lead the generation during these times. Same call I remember you cussing me out telling me I "ain't know s**t!!!" like it was yest[erday]," T.I. wrote on Instagram. "An odd exchange for me to say the least but It was a blessing to meet, speak with, and learn from such an honest, iconic man of wisdom and passion like you."

Tip promised that Gregory will not have died in vain. Some of the other artists who give passionate condolences for Gregory include Chuck, D, Killer Mike, Big Boi, David Banner, Joey BadA$$, Common and Snoop Dogg, who of the man many refer to as "Baba," simply wrote, "Godfather."
