Recently, Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for six games by the NFL as a result of his past domestic violence incidents. On Friday (August 11), the Dallas Cowboys rising star took to Twitter to address the suspension and issued apologies to all of his supporters.
"I am both surprised and disappointed by the NFL's decision today, and I strongly disagree with the League's findings," Elliot said. "I recognize the distraction and disruption that all of this has caused my family, friends, teammates, the Dallas Cowboys organization as well as my fans- for that, I am sincerely sorry."
Following the domestic violence incident involving Ray Rice, NFL officials introduced new punishment guidelines for those in the league who commit such crimes. Because of the changes, Elliott was hit with the mandatory six-game suspension for his first offense. While he plans to appeal the suspension, Elliot goes on to say, "I admit that I am far from perfect, but I plan to continue to work very hard, on and off the field, to mature and earn the great opportunity that I have been given."
