Large Professor was an instrumental part in the career of Nas, especially with the creation of Illmatic. Via an interview with 247HH, Large Pro took the time to reflect on Nas and the time he spent recording the rapper’s first album.
Extra P said “When we were recording before then, we were recording on other people’s time. It was a little bit of pressure cuz, we gotta get up outta here. Time’s up. This time when we worked on Illmatic, I watched my man, he was chillin’. He had his bud, he had his books. He had been already well practiced in the studio, so he came in. I remember the pride he had in just having his own session for once.” Extra P went on to say that Nas had a “serious mentality” and that he was able to mesh well with him because of their sense of urgency to create and be serious on the business tip.
