In a recent YouTube live stream, singer Katy Perry opened up about her past suicidal thoughts.

The 32-year-old pop superstar sat with licensed therapist Siri Sat Nam Singh, who stars on Viceland's "The Therapist," where she got emotional and opened up about her former feelings.

Perry revealed that her 2013 song, "By the Grace of God," was inspired by her previous thoughts of suicide. "I feel ashamed that I would have those thoughts, feel that low and that depressed," the singer states, adding the reason the song was written was "because I do believe in something much bigger than me and I call that God for me."

Perry also spoke about struggling to be herself while portraying the pop star image.

"I so badly want to be Katheryn Hudson [her birth name] that I don't even want to look like Katy Perry anymore sometimes -- and that is a little bit of why I cut my hair," she said, referring to her new hairstyle.

"I'm a bit nerdier than everybody thinks I am," she added. "I'm a big goofball. The fantasy of Katheryn went into Katy and made this bigger than life personality."
