Video of an aggressive cop whose 2016 arrest of a motorist in Taylor, Michigan is being described by the American Civil Liberties Union as "terrifying" and "violent," has gone viral since the advocacy group released it to the public earlier this week.

Dash cam footage of the stop, which took place April of last year, was recovered by ACLU and cited in a letter they sent the Taylor Police Department on Tuesday [May 23], with recommendations on just measures to take, in order to restore faith in its officers. "We received this complaint two days ago. We take all complaints seriously. A thorough investigation will be conducted. I will refrain from any comment until the investigation is complete," Taylor's police chief has said while addressing the incident.

The commotion in the recording started almost immediately after the offending officer showed up at the window of 26-year-old Calvin Jones' vehicle. Jones was asked to provide his license and registration repeatedly and prophesied to be in possession of all of his paperwork, but wouldn't submit it without first being told why he was pulled over. Rather than provide an explanation, the officer issued a threat that he would arrest Jones if he didn't comply with his orders. Within a few short moments that officer had shattered the vehicle's window and was tearing the door off of its hinges; with his backup officers putting gloves on as they slowly approached to assist.

After yanking Jones out onto the ground and violently apprehending him, his wife was commanded to exit the passenger's side of the car, where she too was placed in cuffs for what appeared to be her exercising her right to film the encounter. The police would write in their report that Jones overran a stop sign. ACLU is asking that the Taylor OD launch an in-depth investigation, facilitate appropriate discipline, implement an officer retraining program and consider policy revisions.
