A new drug that so potent it bears a good chance of killing users with one dose has begun to pop up in Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky, and the areas where law enforcement have found it to be most greatly concentrated around Tennessee. "Gray Death," may come in a form that gives off the appearance of chunks of concrete, but what the naked eye doesn't see is its concoction of chemical compounds that include an elephant tranquilizer called Carfentanil.
Carfentanil brings Gray Death a level above other fentanyl derivatives in terms of the risk it poses to the health of the public. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations has actually asked that authorities handle the drug with more precaution than it would any other opioid, as simply touching Carfentanil can cause an overdose. Therefore, lab workers have been warned to double bag evidence suspected to contain it among its properties, as Gray Death would.
"There's chemical compounds in this that are very dangerous," Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch has warned. Gray Death is said to be 100 times as powerful as fentanyl and 10,000 times stronger than morphine.
