Video of two American passengers slugging it out on a Japanese airplane, leaked out to U.S. media sources on Monday night, May 1, and was exposed by television and print media outlets across the nation by Tuesday morning.
The incident went down on an All Nippon Airway flight bound for Los Angeles at around 6 p.m. on Monday. The aircraft had yet taken off from Tokyo's Narita Airport, when an intoxicated passenger in a Hawaiian shirt was confronted by a fellow American citizen who had witnessed him assault four passengers in his drunken stupor. The two immediately began an exchange of blows which saw the intervening party get the best out of the belligerent passenger. After finally leaving his seat and being escorted to the front of the plane, the troublemaker returned for a second bout of blows, which he'd again came out on the short end of.
In addition to the passengers he had laid hands on prior to being stopped, one of ANA's flight attendants suffered a twisted neck and forehead scratches during her attempts to separate the men. Following an hour and forty minute long delay that resulted from the brawl, each of the passengers who had been interviewed were able to board. The man responsible for fanning tensions on the plane, was not, and is reported to have still been in Japanese detention.
