While there were some rumors that Aaron Hernandez's death was murder, Massachusetts Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Henry N. Nields ruled it as suicide. It was also revealed that the former New England Patriots player wrote three notes to his fiancee and his daughter, which were found near a bible in his cell.

Previous reports revealed that Hernandez had bible verse "John 3:16" written on his forehead. The former athlete reportedly blocked his door with cardboard while he hanged himself in his cell with a bedsheet.

Now that the cause of death has been determined, Hernandez's brain will be released to Boston University's CTE center to study it for sports related injuries.
