Press Secretary Sean Spicer kicked off the Q&A portion of his daily briefing on Wednesday, March 29, by inviting American Urban Radio Networks bureau chief April Ryan to ask the first question. How Spicer and Ryan would interact, following the drama spurred by his command for her to stop shaking her head while contentiously addressing Ryan's inquiry the day prior, was no doubt on the minds of surrounding reporters. Ironically, their exchange turned out to be a pleasant one, with Ryan thanking Spicer for thinking to call on her first.

"How are you today?" Spicer responded with a smile on his face. The room broke into laughter as it became clear that they had let the elephant out of the room. "I'm fine, and how are you?" she responded, prompting the secretary to proclaim that he was feeling "fantastic," before giving way to her question.

It was back to business from that moment forth, with Ryan reverting to her coverage of the Russia scandal congressman Devin Nunes has been heading a probe into. While Spicer remained steadfast in his defense of the administration's compliance with the investigation, his tone differed from that which he carried on Tuesday, when he seemed hellbent on dismissing Ryan's inquiry altogether.
