Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan should be in a winning state of mind when he takes the field to battle the New England Patriots for a Super Bowl title on Sunday evening, February 5. That's because on Saturday the 31-year-old veteral learned that he has been named the 2016-17 league's Most Valuable Player.

Ryan heads into his first Super Bowl having conquered opponents with 4,944 passing yards and 38 touchdowns to only seven interceptions. Standing across the field from him will be his MVP runner-up, Tom Brady, who may now only have one more MVP award than Ryan (Brady won in 2007 and 2010), but remains well ahead in the Super Bowl rings category, as he goes for his record-breaking fifth title.

Ryan beat out the field convincingly, winning half of the 50 votes cast, with 25. That was more than twice as many as Brady received (10). Ezekiel Elliot, Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers, and Dak Prescott filled out the remainder of the list. He also came away with the Offensive Player of the Year Award at Saturday's NFL Honors 2017 ceremony.
