The Cosby Show is back in syndication, returning to TV. Bounce TV will begin airing episodes of the hit 80's show. According to the network, after careful research, they found that a majority of their viewers wanted to see the show on TV again. They say a majority of African-American viewers see the distinction between Bill Cosby and Heathcliff Huxtable, the character he played on the show. They will begin airing episodes on Bounce on December 19.
The Cosby Show, starring Bill Cosby, aired for eight seasons on NBC from September 20, 1984, until April 30, 1992. The show focuses on the day-to-day life of the Huxtable family, an upper-middle-class African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York. Bill Cosby played a doctor while his TV wife, Phylicia Rashad played a lawyer. The sitcom was a positive influence and display for black families after being portrayed in a negative light in numerous other shows. It "was TV's biggest hit in the 1980s, and almost single-handedly revived the sitcom genre and NBC's ratings fortunes." It was also based on comedy routines in Cosby's stand-up act, which in turn were based on his family life. The show spawned the spin-off A Different World, which ran for six seasons from 1987 to 1993, and became a classic for many as well.
The Cosby Show had reruns on several different channels but was taken off the air as a result of the numerous sexual assault allegations against Cosby.
