Racewalker Yohann Diniz of France placed eighth in the men's 50k walk final at the 2016 Olympics in Rio on Friday, August, 19. On paper, it was a disappointing finish for a man who was favored by many to take home a metal, but all things considered, it might have been the most exerting performance of the day. Although he wouldn't allow it to knock him out of contention, Diniz's chances became slim when he was suddenly overcome by an episode of "runner's trots," causing him to fall behind, and the cameras to capture its gross effects.

"Runner's trots," or as it is also known, "runner's diarrhea," is not as uncommon an occurrence as some might imagine. Simply described as the immediate urge to defecate mid-run, it is a phenomenon that has been known to mostly strike long distance runners. World record-holding marathon runner, Paula Radcliffe, for example, topped the field despite having to veer over to "go" on the sideline during the 2005 London Marathon.

Diniz was actually in the lead when he began to buckle to his unfortunate circumstance. The millions watching across the world got a first-hand glimpse as televisions zeroed in on him grinding forward despite the brown liquid runoff secreted down the back of his thigh. Before giving in, Diniz turned up the gears though completing the race in 3 hours and 46 minutes. Upon crossing the finish line, Diniz collapsed from exhaustion.
