Dipset Capo Jim Jones spared a couple of thoughts on some former foes while a guest on this week's episode of the Rap Radar Podcast on Thursday, June 9. The names Dame Dash and Max B came up in the Harlem rapper/executive's interview with hosts Elliot Wilson and B. Dot, drawing a shut down of Dame who he said violated his trust, while declining to pass judgement of Max B, yet speaking to the potential he had as an artist.
"I'm not one of those people that like to kick a n***a when he's down or anything like that. He's got his own circumstances he's got to go through right now. I seen a kid from the hood that could do, so very talented, and you know, he had a chance to. He just made the wrong decisions," Jim said. "I actually built him out from them circumstances. I mean, I put a lot of money in that boy' pocket. So you know, he had a chance to do, be big as Drake right now."
Jones goes on to speak on the influence Max B had on the rap game, linking a correlation between artists who deliver melodic rhyme schemes to the Wave innovator. He specifically named Wiz Khalifa, telling how the Pittsburgh rapper studied Max's catalog before developing his own. Max B was known for his prolific output, releasing 13 mixtapes at the height of his career [between 2008 and 2009] to go with four other music compilations in that span. He had already put out 25 projects by the time his debut album Vigilante Season hit the streets in 2011.
Max would never have the opportunity to celebrate the success, however, as he had already been in his second year of a 75 year prison sentence by the time his studio album dropped. As damning as his robbery and murder conspiracy convictions were to him, they were also bittersweet for Jones, who put Max on before a contract dispute soured into a bitter feud that the two never did resolve.
