Tech N9ne revealed why he would not sign Hopsin to Strange Music, and it's associated with Hopsin's feud with his former label.

The rapper showed a lot of love to Hopsin’s former home at Funk Volume that housed artists like Jarren Benton, Dizzy Wright and SwizZz, while also expressing his sorrow about the label’s recent public feud. Getting in the middle of the drama that is continuing to develop between the label and its artists would be a bad move for Strange Music, according to Tech N9ne. “I don’t want to get in that family bulls***. I don’t want to get in the middle of their feud by saying come on over here with us. Because the first thing said about Funk Volume is going to be on me. I love them all equally, so I don’t want nothing to do with that s***. If anybody has any questions on who I want to sign, I don’t know maybe that will change one day. I would hate to get into that family feud by signing n***** from over there,” he said. Tech N9ne has toured with Funk Volume’s Jarren Benton and first thought of signing him to Strange Music, but will not make a move due to the feud. And although he’s set on not interfering in the label’s business at the moment, he did not completely rule out the possibility of bringing Benton or Hopsin to Strange Music sometime in the future.

“It makes so much sense to sign any of them motherf***ers,” he continued. “Because they’re all elite lyricists. But I don’t want that headache. I wish them all luck and maybe it will change in the future. Maybe them motherf***ers will convince me to do something different, but how I feel right now, I don't feel like I want to get into that s***.” Hopsin co-founded Funk Volume and recently left the label over differences with Damien Ritter, who also helped to start the label with him in 2009. Hopsin publicized the feud even more in his video for “Ill Mind of Hopsin 8” where he raps about issues with Ritter, including his alleged gambling problems, his conflict of interest being the manager, label owner and accountant, and what he called a “s***ty” distribution deal with Warner Bros. He now operates under his newly found Undercover Prodigy label, and declared that Funk Volume was officially dead on his Instagram earlier this year.
