“Hamilton” star Daveed Diggs recently proved to “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon that he can rap extremely fast, and blew the crowd away with a verse that would make Twista tip his hat.
During a clip from a recent episode, Fallon asks Diggs about a record he set by being the fastest rapper on Broadway with a song titled “Guns and Chips” where he raps 19 words in 3 seconds. The actor laughed it off and explained why in the general hip-hop world it's more common than most people would think. “It’s not, not fast,” said Diggs. “In the rap world that’s medium fast. It’s fast, but it’s not the fastest. There are faster." Fallon asks him for an example of a fast rap and Diggs bursts into a double and triple time verse. The crowd goes wild after the rap and Fallon couldn’t help but bow to him.
After the rap was posted to “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon Homepage” yesterday, Diggs tweeted out the clip and paid homage to Fallon’s resident hip-hop legends in the post. “When @questlove and @theroots come in to take the moment to a whole new level#fallon,” he wrote. Diggs originated the roles for both Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in “Hamilton.” He’s won a Grammy for his work in the Broadway play and he’s also the vocalist for clipping., an experimental hip-hop group from Los Angeles, California where he goes by the name MC Daveed Diggs. The snippet he performed during the show was actually from a clipping. song. Diggs was also recently nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of Jefferson and Lafayette in “Hamilton.”
