Residents in Houston, TX are urged to stay home after more than a foot of rain caused flooding in low-lying areas. According to CNN more than 1,000 homes were flooded in Harris County, forcing some residents to be trapped. Officials have suspended bus and rail services and have been forced to close schools and government offices.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told reporters that no injuries or deaths have been reported, but crews have been dispatched to rescue more than 400 people. The storm caused 140 flights to be cancelled at Houston’s Hobby airport as of early afternoon.

You can see in the video posted above of a news anchor rescuing a gentleman who abandoned his vehicle in high waters. At the time of this report, 88,000 homes and businesses are currently without electricity in the region.
