Allegations of sexual abuse have been brought up against Afrika Bambaataa, hip hop legend and creator of the influential track “Planet Rock.” His accuser, Ronald Savage, says he was only 15 years old when the abuse began.

Savage is a former music industry executive, and told the NY Daily News that he had suicidal thoughts and struggled with intimacy in relationships because of the abuse that he suffered from Bambaataa as a teenager. Savage detailed the abuse in his newly released memoir titled Impulse, Urges, and Fantasies. When asked the reason for breaking his silence, Savage said “I want him to know how much he damaged me growing up. I was just a child. Why did he take my innocence away? Why did he do this to me?”

Savage also mentioned that he is speaking out because he feels a change should be made to New York’s statute of limitations. The law currently bars children who were sexual abused from pursuing criminal charges or filing civil suits past their 23rd birthday.
