T.I. - or Tip as he would now like to be called - just gave us another reason to tune into our televisions in 2016. Earlier today Variety confirmed there will in fact be a revival of "Roots" in the near future, and now on top of an already star-studded cast, T.I. will play one of the show's more pivotal roles.

Next year we'll get to see Tip transform into Cyrus, a slave Variety calls "headstrong" as he "fights for his freedom for the Union Army against Confederate Forces." Tip will reportedly be a prominent character in the fourth and final episode of the series. The "Roots" television remake was picked up by A+E Networks and casted T.I. alongside James Purefoy ("The Following") & Lane Garrison from "Prison Break."

Mekhi Phifer also officially joined the cast and will join the likes of Laurence Fishburne, Derek Luke, Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin and Anika Noni Rose to remake the popular 1977 miniseries. "Roots" is currently being filmed in Louisiana and is due out sometime next year.
