Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced that part of "Phase 3" for the Marvel Cinematic Universe projects will include the introduction of the first Black superhero, Black Panther. The actor who has been chosen for the honorable role is none other than the talented Chadwick Boseman. For those unfamiliar with Boseman's work, he starred in majorly successful films such as "42," the biopic for Jackie Robinson, and "Get On Up" where he depicted the life of the legendary James Brown.
Black Panther will officially step out into the spotlight in "Captain America: Civil War," which is scheduled to be released to theaters on May 6th, 2016. Following this featured appearance, the official "Black Panther" movie is set to hit theaters on November 3rd, 2017.
On Tuesday, October 28th, at Marvel Studios' Cinematic Universe event held at the El Capitan Theater in L.A., Boseman was brought on stage alongside Robert Downey Jr., who has owned the role of Iron Man for years, and Chris Evans, who's mastered the role of Captain America. Boseman was very gracious for having been granted the huge opportunity, and spoke highly of the success that he hopes to bring the newly introduced franchise.
"I'm blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together," Boseman told the crowd.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also spoke highly of the Black Panther role that Boseman has been gifted with.
"Black Panther and all of Wakanda is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel history," Feige stated. "Something I already showed you today contains an Easter egg that leads directly into 'Black Panther.' He's a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it's all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn't."
