Derrick Shelby of the Miami Dolphins is fighting back against the Miami Police Department after they allegedly beat him up during an arrest.

According to Daily Mail, the player was arrested and charged with allegedly trespassing and resisting arrest without violence after a disturbance at Cyn Nightclub early Sunday morning.

Police claim the player was asked by security to leave the nightclub but he refused. Police were called and he was escorted out of the club. While Sheby's lawyers point out that the player was arrested and didn't resist arrest, his mugshot tells a different story.

His lawyers claim the police used aggressive force on him, busting his bottom lip and leaving his eyes heavily swollen.

"There was no report of a fight (in the club) or anything like that,' defense attorney Danny Rosenberg said. "Only place the bruising can come from is from the police. I don't want to get into that too much. When you see charges of resisting without violence and you see photos like that there's a lot of conflicting information."

Shelby was released earlier today and plans to enter a plea of "not guilty" on Monday.
The Dolphins released a statement following their player's arrest.

"We are aware of the reports regarding Derrick Shelby and are in the process of gathering information." the statement read.
