At just 22 years old, Bruce Willis' daughter, Scout Willis, has taken on a very courageous protest in support of gender equality by focusing on the skewed perceptions of the female body. She launched the #FreeTheNipple campaign, which protests Instagram's policy for deleting pictures of women showing their full, nude breasts on the social media site, and often deactivating their entire accounts for uploading these types of images. Rihanna's recent Instagram profile deactivation served as significant motivation for Scout, as Rihanna's account was deleted for posting topless and bottomless pictures from her Lui Magazine photo shoot.
Scout's #FreeTheNipple campain has grown to become so much greater than just a supportive outlet for Rihanna, as it now serves as a movement to empower women all around the world. She's brought up numerous examples on Twitter to expose how Instagram is a bit suspect when it comes to the content they delete, as opposed to the content they let remain on their platform. Scout has also conducted experiments where she has purposely uploadeded pictures to see if Instagram would take them down.
In one case, she posted side-by-side pictures of an obese man lifting up his shirt to expose his chest, next to the picture of Rihanna's topless Lui photo. The obese man's photo was allowed to remain on Instagram, while Riahnna's was taken off. Another example she presented was of a man who uploaded a photo of two women sitting on his naked lap, with one of the girls topless, and another picture of the same man holding up two pistols covering a woman's nipples. Those pictures were allowed to remain on Instagram, while a picture of a sweatshirt that had images of topless women on them got deleted.
Aside from her active protest on Twitter, Scout went the extra mile recently, as she actually strolled throughout the streets of NYC on Tuesday, May 27th, completely topless wearing only a loose skirt. Scout has been applauded by many for her bold stance against society's idea of what a woman should wear in order to feel comfortable in her own skin. She's even gotten her Twitter AVI set as a message of how women of all sizes should feel comfortable wearing whatever they chose to wear.
Her movement has picked up loads of steam and support from many men and women who've been following her on Twitter. Rihanna even took notice and cosigned Scout's #FreeTheNipple campaign.
