The New York City Health Department has shut down a busy Midtown Dunkin Doughnuts after someone filmed rats chewing on pastries in a locked cabinet after the store had closed. The original clip has been viewed over 200,000 times, causing an uproar online, especially by those who had visited the store at 37th Street and Eighth Avenue.

After the Health Department paid the store a visit, a sign reading, "CLOSED by order of the Commissioner of Health and Mental Hygiene" was hung in the window.

They issued a statement following the decision:

"Dunkin' Donuts was closed by the Health Department yesterday because of a public health hazard that could not be corrected at the time of the inspection. In this case, the restaurant had a severe pest infestation that will require professional pest control services. They were also cited for other critical violations, including inadequate hand washing facilities and food not being protected from contamination."
