Originally, the NFL was demanding $1.5 million from Sri Lankan singer M.I.A. However, that figure has now spiked to a total of $16.6 million after the NFL demanded another $15.1 million in "restitution" they claim she owes the organization.

Even though she performed at the February 5th, 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show for free, the NFL came up with the restitution figure as being equal to what advertisers would have paid for their ad space during the few minutes that she was on stage alongside Madonna.  It is also an estimated value of the public recognition she gained from being watched by almost 167 million TV sets during her performance.

M.I.A. believes this new demand is utterly ridiculous.

"The claim for restitution lacks any basis in law, fact, or logic."  She also believes that the NFL's "continued pursuit of this proceeding is transparently an exercise by the NFL intended solely to bully and make an example of Respondents for daring to challenge NFL."

What do you think of the $16.6 million demand from the NFL?  Are they taking the situation too far over her sticking up her middle finger during the Halftime Show?
