After Sparks player Nneka Ogwumike scored a tough layup during which she was also fouled hard in the process, her teammates got a little too excited during the celebration. Candace Parker lunged at her and gave her a hard and energetic hug, which sent Ogwumike back against the hoop post. When they bounced off of the post a bit and slightly separated their grasp, fellow Sparks teammate Alana Beard came rushing over to jump in the celebration.
Beard jumped on Candace Parker's back which sent her head crashing into Ogwumike's left eye hard, which resulted in Ogwumike suffering a nasty gash over her eyelid. The Sparks went on to beat the Shock in a double overtime score of 90-88.
