North Korea has sent out a brand new threat to the United States. This time it is the young 28-year-old leader, Kim Jong-un, who's guiding the nation and it is under his rule that they recently tested out a nuclear weapon for the third time. Despite sanctions issued by the U.N., which were put in place to limit North Korea's ability to craft a nuclear weapon, they've managed to do it anyway.
The threat they put forth this time against the United States during a large rally in Pyongyang on Thursday, March 7th, was that North Korea was going to engulf Washington "in a sea of fire." It was Army General Kang Pyo Yong who issued the chilling threat.
"Intercontinental ballistic missiles and various other missiles, which have already set their striking targets, are now armed with lighter, smaller and diversified nuclear warheads and are placed on a standby status. When we shell (the missiles), Washington, which is the stronghold of evils, .... will be engulfed in a sea of fire."
Susan Rice, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. responded to the North Korean warnings by saying:
"North Korea will achieve nothing by continued threats and provocations. These will only further isolate the country and its people and undermine international efforts to promote peace and stability in northeast Asia."
U.S. military officials are preparing for the worst, but hopefully nothing more than threats will come from this.
