Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon was recently hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit concerning the song "The New Wu" off of his 2009 album "Only Built For Cuban Linx...Pt. 2". Bridgeport Music filed the suit, which they say is due to an uncleared sample from the 1971 Magictones song, "I've Changed".
Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and RZA were all named in the lawsuit, as they were all involved with the song. The suit claims RZA sped up a portion of "I've Changed" and raised the key from E minor to F minor.
In the midst of several other lawsuits driven by uncleared samples, it seems as if music executives aim to make it extremely difficult for hip hop producers to do their jobs. We will keep you updated on what happens with this case.
