Despite Ice-T's rising in the hip-hop realm, he has never pinned himself as someone who is promoting the "gangsta lifestyle."  Ice-T has made some notoriously hard-core street music like "Cop Killer", "Six In The Morning", and "Original Gangster", but has also gone on to star in various films and TV shows where at times he is playing a police officer, and write books as well.

During a call-in interview section while Ice was on Sway Calloway's "Sway In The Morning" show, Ice-T set the record straight for a listener who questioned his authenticity after making legit hood music, then acting in roles as a policeman.

“If you listen to my music, my music has always been anti-gangsta.  I use the gangsta persona, but at the end of most of my records I end up dead. Or I’m telling somebody, ‘Hey if this is the road you’re gonna take, this is where you’re gonna end.’ Anybody who’s been in it can’t speak on it like it’s nothing. My thing has never been to promote drug dealing or hustling or whatever. It’s always had another side to it.”
