Two Ferrari wielding drivers who lost control of their vehicles have been charged with the death of Stephen Lenge, a motorcyclist struck by one of the cars.
Joseph Ferretti, 28, of Dumont, and Joseph Meyer, 19, of Oveido, Fla., were driving two Ferraris to an event at Met Life Stadium when Meyer lost control of his vehicle and struck two curbs, forcing Ferretti to pass him in the opposite lane to avoid a crash. In return, Ferretti crashed into Stephen Lenge, who was on his way to the Electric Daisy Festival where he was working as a stage hand.
Lenge's motorcycle was ripped in half, while the front of Ferretti's Ferrari was crushed. The road where the two men were traveling on has a speed limit of 25 mph, but eye witnesses say the men were driving at excessive speed. As reported by the Bergen Herald:
"Forrest Harrell, a stagehand from Virginia, said he saw the two Ferraris racing past him while he and some other workers were on a break. He said the cars were going 'faster than you see on an interstate' and that the silver car swerved first, with the red car going around it before both were obscured by a puff of smoke and debris."
Both men are being held at the Bergen County jail in Hackensack in lieu of $50,000 with no 10 percent option, according to Sgt. Brian Polite, who said Ferretti and Meyer will also face several traffic violations.
