Michael Vick now knows that it's wrong to abuse animals. In a statement on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback brought attention to Alabama's cockfighting law, and the fact that it's the nation's "weakest", with a $50 fine being the maximum punishment for offenders.

He's spoken out against animal cruelty several times after he spent 16 months in a federal prison on a dog-fighting conviction, back when he played for the Atlanta Falcons.

After Vick's words, Senator Cam Ward introduced a bill that would increase the fine from $50 to $6,000. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee, but the Senate Rules Committee refused to bring up the bill for a vote.
