The remake takes place in Detroit, Michigan in the 1960s during the Motown era. The film stars Jordin Sparks, Whitney Houston, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green, and more.
Also, R&B artist R. Kelly wrote original songs to augment the original song score from the 1976 film by Curtis Mayfield.
Sparkle also marks Whitney Houston's 4th and final feature film role after dying on February 11, 2012. The film releases August 17, 2012.
