Most would call this an unfair advantage since Babe Ruth is not active/relevant now.

But a recent poll of 801 New York State Residents voted on their 'greatest' athlete and though many made the list, Derek Jeter came out on top with 14% of the votes. Babe Ruth came in a close 2nd place with 11%. Other than that, the rest of the athletes fell behind and did not even make it past 4%.

Some of the 'honorable' mentions include Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Joe Namath, Patrick Ewing, and even newcomer Carmelo Anthony.

As for New York's favorite sport, football won by 1% over baseball. (23%-22%)
