Former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke previously announced that he would be taking a job under the Trump administration as an assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security. Shortly after he made the announcement, DHS made it known that Clarke was not being considered for the position anymore. Now, Clarke is under fire for allegedly plagiarizing his master’s thesis. CNN reported that if Clarke does not revise his thesis, he will risk losing his degree in security studies from the Naval Post-Grad School.

A report from CNN noted the school came to a decision about Clarke after they launched an investigation into Clarke’s thesis. Clarke allegedly took pieces of his thesis from different ACLU reports, The Washington Post, the 9/11 Commission Report, and more. In July 2017, the dean of students for the Naval Postgraduate School—Paul Rasmussen, wrote a letter to David Clarke noting that he discovered the former Sheriff’s thesis was “in violation” of the school’s honor code. Rasmussen went on to say that Clarke had 100 days from the time the letter was written— October 23, 2017, to re-issue a revised thesis or the school would “initiate degree revocation.” Basically, if he doesn’t refine his thesis he could be kicked out of school.
