Back in late August, it was reported that singer Mariah Carey wasn't too thrilled over American Idol's pursuit of Nicki Minaj to bring her on as a judge, and since then the Young Money artist has officially signed a contract to become the newest judge for the upcoming season. Rumors quickly spread that the two musicians were already not getting along, but in an interview with MTV, Mariah Carey laughed off those claims and said there was no truth to them.

"How are we gonna feud in two days? A feud takes a little longer to spread out [than that]," she said. "It's fun, it's music, it's singing, it's laughter," Mariah added as she and Nicki laughed off the rumors together.

Nicki's addition to the judge panel was rumored for some time before it was made official on Sunday. MJ Santilli, who runs the talent show's fan site, hopes the female rapper will be able to prove wrong those who have questioned her being a part of the show.

"I'm looking forward to Nicki shutting down the naysayers. I have never seen such a negative reaction to a prospective judge when the Nicki rumors initially surfaced. For some folks, Nicki is too weird and profane for 'Idol.' But I see this polarized reaction as a good thing for the panel. The 'American Idol' core audience, which grows older and older every year, needs a shakeup."
