As details began to emerge in the suicide death of Hip-Hop mogul Chris Lighty, reports circulated saying he and his wife Veronica got into an argument the day he took his life. But Lighty's wife is disputing those reports, and she told a friend that the couple didn't get into a fight that day. Instead, she cites money issues as the probable reason he decided to end his life.

"He was in a lot of pain and he possibly had some financial difficulties," said Norman Downes, Victoria Lighty's friend, who spoke on her behalf as she was too distraught to make any comments. "But they didn't get into a fight that day," Downes said.

While the couple may not have fought that particular day, it has been documented that the two were going through a bitter divorce. Lighty took his own life shortly before he was set to move out of their South Riverdale home. Sources state that Lighty left the house saying "I'm tired of this", and after he made it to the backyard, he shot himself in the head. But Lighty's wife contends it was financial troubles that drove her husband over the edge.

Sources say that Lighty owed a debt to the IRS in the amount of $300,000 stemming from unpaid state and federal taxes. Norman Downes, a friend of Lighty's wife, suggested that Chris is the only one who knows the real reason behind his motive. "The only person that really knows is Chris, and he ain't here," Downes said.

His death was officially ruled a suicide this past Friday.
