El DeBarge is set to perform at Funk Fest 2012 in Atlanta in the near future. During a call with Ryan Cameron of V103 radio, the two spoke about a number of interesting things, ranging from his substance abuse trouble to Whitney Houston.

DeBarge stated that after making his comeback with the album Second Chance, he was in a dark place and disappeared from the scene for a while before being arrested for possession of drugs - a charge that was later dropped.

But he did admit that he felt himself getting ready to relapse, which is why he called up 50 Cent, whom he had collaborated with in the past, and told 50 that he needed help. The Queens native scooped up DeBarge and took him to Interscope Records where they sat down with head of the company, Jimmy Iovine, and determined that DeBarge would go to rehab.

During the conversation, he also spoke on the late great Whitney Houston and revealed that he was the one who introduced her and Bobby Brown for the first time. He said they hit it off immediately. Continuing to speak on Houston, DeBarge says that he was set to collaborate on a record with her before her untimely death.

He's certainly had a colorful life so far. Hopefully El DeBarge can stay clean and healthy, as he was cleared of a previous drug possession charge.
