Since 2001, singer El DeBarge has been arrested on three separate occassions for drug-related crimes. He was arrested this past Tuesday for felony possession with the intent to sell, but has since been cleared of the charges due to a lack of evidence to support the case.
The reports state that police officers performed a random stop and search procedure on DeBarge and another man who were having a conversation on the street. The police found nothing on either DeBarge or the other individual after conducting the search, however they decided to search the surrounding area, and came upon a bag of crack cocaine that was hidden under a nearby car.
DeBarge was arrested because the other man claimed he was trying to buy the drugs from El DeBarge, even though DeBarge strongly denied the accusations against him. Having only a randomly found bag of crack hidden under a car, and an unreliable accusation, the D.A. came to the conclusion that there was an insufficient amount of evidence for the case, and dropped the charges against DeBarge.
