Diamond Reynolds, the girlfriend of Philando Castile, will receive $800,000 under a settlement announced on Tuesday. This comes after a Minnesota police officer shot and killed Castile in front of Reynolds and their 4-year-old daughter last year.

Reynolds, who filmed the aftermath of the shooting, will receive $675,000 from the city of St. Anthony, Minnesota and an additional $125,000 from the city of Roseville and the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust.

Reynolds and her daughter claimed emotional distress and false arrest in connection with the shooting. The agreement, if approved by the court, would settle Reynolds’ claims of emotional distress and false arrest. A portion of the money will be placed into a trust fund for her daughter’s education, according to a press release issued by St. Anthony.

"While no amount of money can change what happened, bring Philando back, or erase the pain that my daughter and I continue to suffer, I do hope that closing this chapter will allow us to get our lives back and move forward," Reynolds said in the statement Tuesday.

The announcement comes after St. Anthony agreed to pay a separate, $3 million settlement to Mr. Castile’s estate. The city also reached a separation agreement with the officer who shot Castile and said he would not return to work there.
