The Minnesota police officer who fatally shot and killed Philando Castile will receive $48,500 as he leaves the suburban department. According to a separation agreement announced Monday, Jeronimo Yanez will be paid a lump sum free of state taxes and deductibles. Yanez will also receive pay for up to 600 hours of unused personal leave pay. The exact time is unknown.

Philando Castile was a 32-year-old elementary school cafeteria worker who was shot and killed by Jeronimo Yanez during a traffic stop on July 6, 2016. Philando's girlfriend streamed his death on Facebook while his 4-year-old daughter was in the back seat. Philando did have a weapon in the car, but Officer Yanez was informed of this.
