Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas came under fire for a victim-shaming tweet after her teammate Aly Raisman revealed she was sexually abused by the team's doctor. Now in a surprising twist, Douglas revealed that she too was abused the former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

In a lengthy statement posted to her Instagram account, Douglas issued another apology to Raisman for suggesting last week that dressing in a "provocative" and "sexual" manner entices predators and that it's the woman's "responsibility" to "dress classy." Douglas says that she was at an event with children and young adults the day before and takes her job as a role model seriously.

She then dropped a bombshell, saying that she doesn't believe clothing matters because that would suggest that them wearing leotards made it "our fault that we were abused by Nassar." It was the first time she revealed that she had been abused like her other two teammates.

"I didn't publicly share my experiences as well as many other things because for years we were conditioned to stay silent and honestly some things were extremely painful," Douglas, 21, wrote. “I wholeheartedly support my teammates for coming forward with what happened to them.”

Douglas didn't go into detail about the abuse Nassar allegedly subjected her to but asked for compassion from her fans.

"I understand that many of you didn't know what I was dealing with, but it is important to me that you at least know this," she wrote.

Douglas is the third member of the 2012 Olympic gold medal gymnastics team with these allegations, joining Raisman and McKayla Maroney, who both revealed they were abused by Nassar. Raisman said Nasar touched her inappropriately during several treatment sessions starting when she was in her teens. Maroney said that Nassar molested her for several years, beginning when she was just 13-years-old.

Some fans expressed support for Douglas while others said they did not believe her and felt she was looking for sympathy after the backlash.

As for Nassar, he's currently in a Michigan jail awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to three counts of child pornography. He's also preparing for a trial next month over charges that he sexually assaulted nine girls. In addition to criminal charges, Nassar is also being sued by more than 130 women and girls who filed a class-action suit alleging that the disgraced doctor abused them under the guise of medical treatment.

Nassar has denied the allegations.
