The NFL has been mired in controversy all off-season and the start of the regular season has not eased up. Following President Trump's comments during a rally in Alabama last week where he urged NFL owners to fire any "son of a b****" that is caught protesting the National Anthem. This prompted a number of teams heightening their protest efforts including NFL owners backing their players right to voice their disdain.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett who just recently had an encounter with Las Vegas police following the Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor super-fight, spoke on the president's comments. Bennett said that this is a time for everyone to come together and how exciting it is to see a concerted effort on the part of the players to bring about larger societal change. He also praised other teams who decided to pass up on the National Anthem altogether calling their chocie "revolutionary." During his time meeting with the press, Bennett said of Trump's comments that he couldn't believe the president would refer to his mother in that way. Colin Kaepernick's mother also chimed in on Trump's comments claiming that she's a "proud b****" after seeing the impact her son has had on the league.
