Who knew 90's sitcom Friends would ever become a 'thing' in hip-hop? 2017 has proven to be the year that reference to the popular NBC show made its return the pop culture, and oddly enough, it has done so with the help of two of rap's biggest stars. Most recently, Lil Wayne kicked FOX NFL Kickoff with a parody of the show's classic theme song, and during its opening, even he seemed confused by the network pairing him with the tune.

"So Colin told you life was gonna be this way/ O-line's a joke, you choked, your run game's D.O.A./ You already brought your loyal fans to tears/ 'cause it hasn't been your day, your week, your month for like 15 years," Weezy lip sang, as subtitles for the song's modified lyrics rolled across the screen. The hook "don't go 0 and 2," would follow, as Wayne found the pep in his step and began to move with the melody.

Last month Jay-Z intrigued fans when he released the video to his 4:44 track "Moonlight." The Alan Yang directed project bore an artsy edge, with him crafting a television episode style visual that recreated Friends. It was an ironic twist, considering Friends received a lot of criticism in its time for failing to include Black characters. In any case, Hov's appropriation of the show appeared to reclaim it for his audience's liking. While it was clear that actors Issa Rae, Lakeith Stanfield, Lil Rel Howery, Tessa Thompson, Tiffany Haddish and Jerrod Carmichael were channeling Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Monica and Phoebe, the actual "Friends" song played during the intro was that of Whodini.
