Colin Kaepernick has been rolling incognito over the past several months, but every once in awhile he's surfaced with a few words to defend those who've found themselves taking on the system as he's been doing for over a year now. Such was the case last week when he tweeted his support for Michael Bennett, whose treatment at the hands of the Las Vegas Police Department Kaepernick called "disgusting and unjust." And it also became the case when the athlete-turned-activist took a stand for ESPN host Jemele Hill as she faces backlash for calling the President a "white supremacist."

"We are with you @jemelehill," Kaepernick tweeted at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 12. By midnight the tweet had garnered 18,000 likes and more than 8,300 shares.

The message was in response to the scrutiny Hill has been under for blasting Trump following a series of tweets which called Kid Rock out for his embrace of the Confederate flag, and noted that the President had declared HBCUs unconstitutional. The response ESPN received over the comments posted to Hill's personal handle was so overwhelming that the network was forced to issue a statement deeming her remarks "inappropriate" and not representative of the position of ESPN.
