Hurricane Irma is so strong, it's sucking up the water from coastlines in some areas.

Twitter user @Kaydi_K witnessed this firsthand, sharing an extraordinary video that showed the ocean floor completely exposed on Long Island in the Bahamas. “I am in disbelief right now...This is Long Island, Bahamas and the ocean water is missing!!!” she tweeted on Friday.

The wind on Long Island in the Bahamas was from the southeast to the northwest on Saturday. On the northwest side of the island, it would be blowing the water away from the shoreline. But others predict the bizarre video is a result of the hurricane’s low pressure and strength, causing surrounding waters to be sucked into its core.

In most cases, receding waters are usually a sign of an incoming tsunami. However, the Long Island shoreline that was swept away with the Category 4 storm was expected to gradually return to Long Island on Sunday afternoon, without excessive force.

Witnesses who said they saw the water recede on Friday said it returned the following day.
Irma has killed at least 22 people and left thousands homeless so far as it ripped through the Caribbean Sea and parts of the Atlantic Ocean.

Hurricane Irma struck the Bahamas on Friday, as it made its way toward Florida, where meteorologists predicted it would hit the Keys on Sunday morning. The storm is then predicted to plow its way through the state's west coast, making its way into the Tampa Bay area by Monday morning.

Cuba was hit on Saturday with winds of up to 160mph, the first time the island had suffered such a strong hurricane since 1924. Nearly 7 million people in the Southeast were warned to evacuate, including 6.4 million in Florida alone.

According to NHC, Irma is expected to remain a hurricane at least through Monday morning.
