Hurricane season is in full effect.

Hurricane Harvey left the state of Texas devasted, amounting to what turned out to be the costliest hurricane of all time, with damage estimates nearing $200 billion. To put that figure in perspective, Harvey caused more damage than Hurricane Katrina and Sandy combined. With seemingly no break in sight, the next wave of hurricanes has targeted the Caribean islands with very little evacuation time. Massive relief efforts have gone underway to help the residents, but the relief may have to be redirected to the east coast in preparation for Hurricane Irma. The category 5 hurricane made landfall late last night in Barbuda, about 250 miles away from Puerto Rico.

The first casualty of Hurrican Irma has been the island of Barbuda, which according to reports, has been left virtually uninhabitable. At least one person died in Category 5, 185 mph winds that completely devastated the island, tearing houses from foundations and snapping trees like twigs. Despite the devastation, the island has already begun to prepare for further evacuation in preparation of Hurricane Jose, which is expected to become a major storm and pass through the outskirts of the tiny island.
