James Dolan and the Knicks have decided to part ways with Phil Jackson, marking the end of his three-year term as team president. Jackson's time in New York was characterized by increasing tension between players and the front office, a string of ill-advised signings, and a lot of losing.

Jackson may have sealed his fate when he initiated talks of trading Kristaps Porzingis because he decided to skip exit meetings at the end of the 2016-17 season. Drafting Porzingis in 2015 may very well have been Jackson's only beneficial contribution to the team. The Knicks under Jackson went 80-166.

Unsurprisingly, Knicks faithful everywhere are openly celebrating Jackson's ouster. A little more surprisingly, fans are praising owner James Dolan, who over the years has systematically alienated and enraged the Knicks fanbase.

In all likelihood, the Knicks will still pay Jackson the full $60 million of his five-year contract.
