BET gave Vic Mensa a bit of airtime to explain what it was that moved him to confront DJ Akademiks during his appearance as a guest on Complex's Everyday Struggle earlier this week. Mensa made headlines after his mood flipped upon Akademiks shifting into the topic of violence in Chicago, calling him out for the satirical slant he put on his War In Chiraq series. During Wednesday's [June 21] BET taping, Mensa doubled down on his choice to put Akademiks on the spot, posing that it's one thing to present the day's news, and quite another thing to embellish its details to keep fans coming back.

"You know, I think that it's important that we not get completely jaded by this crazy time we're in where anybody can say anything and it reach millions of people," Mensa said. "Like, we still have to be able to have some perspective on what's completely out of line and unacceptable."

Mensa pointed out how using such terminology as "savages" when referring to those involved in a tragedy would get most media people fired, as was the case with Don Imus years ago. He described the impression he's gotten from watching some of Akademik's videos, as gross, and urged those in his same position to take more responsibility over what they report and how they report it.
