In August 2016, D.C. rapper Swipey was killed during an attempted robbery that took place at a family gathering that he was attending. Before his passing, the rapper had only been signed for one year and had performed with the likes of Wale and Fat Joe. Now, the PG County police have released details behind two suspects who were arrested for the murder. According to police, there were allegedly five robbers, but they were able to track 19-year-old Diante Brewer by a GPS tracking device issued under a court order from a previous case. Police reports stated Watkins' cellphone and GPS tracker were present in that area around the time of the shooting.

Police were also able to catch 18-year-old Deshawn Watkins. PG County police said that Brewer and Watkins had planned to bumrush the party that was being put together by one of Swipey's family members. However, the five young men were not able to make it into the party because of an altercation that took place outside of the party. Not too long after the altercation, shots were fired by the suspects. Watkins was taken in by the police due to him being in possession of a gun that had ballistic evidence tied to the shooting of Swipey. Police stated that Watkins was arrested because of an alleged argument that took place on October 31, between him and a female student. During the argument, Watkins allegedly presented the gun, flashing it at her. Police would later find that same gun placed not too far from his house.

Both of the young men were charged with first-degree murder with the use of a handgun. Watkins and Brewer are currently waiting to be extradited to Maryland. Despite catching two suspects, police are still on the hunt for the other suspects.
