The movie was met with backlash over the commentary within the film, and according to Stiller, the movie was actually boycotted at one point. A focal point of the movie was Robert Downey Jr’s character, an Australian method actor who had surgery to darken his skin to play a Black sergeant in the army.
A post from a social media user brought up the movie, telling Ben Stiller to stop apologizing for making the movie, all while managing to speak on liberals and "cancel culture." Stiller responded to the claim by the user, telling them he never made any apology for the movie.
“I make no apologies for Tropic Thunder,” said the director. He continued saying, “Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it.” Take a look above.
