Alec Baldwin released a statement in light of the accidental shooting on the set of his new film Rust, which killed a cinematographer and injured a director. 

Baldwin released the statement on Twitter on Friday (October 22), which reads, "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours. I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna." 

Anthony Pawluc, a member of the entertainment union International Alliance of Theatrical Stage an accidental weapons discharge," in an email that was obtained by IndieWire. Pawluc stated that "a live single round was accidentally fired on set by the principal actor, hitting both the [director of photography], Local 600 member Halnya Hutchins, and [director] Joel Souza."

According to reports, a cinematographer has died after being struck by a bullet accidentally fired from actor Alec Baldwin's prop gun on the film set of the independent film Rust, which is being shot in New Mexico. 

Authorities confirmed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins succumbed to her injuries and that director Joel Souza was wounded in the incident. 

"We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico, died from injuries sustained on the set,” the Cinematographers Guild’s National President, John Lindley, and National Executive Director, Rebecca Rhine, said in a joint statement. 

The statement continued, “the details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”

Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office said no charges have been brought against Baldwin.
